Brian Wafawarowa’s address begins by reflects on his role as representing the African perspective within international IP organization’s boards and bodies. He then reflects on the challenges discussed during this workshop, and draws comparisons with the development of the African Publisher’s Network (APNet) in the 90’s into the early 2000’s. During this time APNet addresses issues of both the quantity of African publications being produced within the global market, and the quality of these publications. He concludes by introducing the second half of the workshop, which explores examples from the industry at both institutional and national levels, that will inform the type of future research and analysis that needs to be considered for further implementation. He concludes with a final thought: how can regional innovation, communication and collaboration be encouraged and nurtured?
